"The Artist Horst Deuter"

Knowingly the artist Horst Deuter likes to break the taboos of our society. His paintings are pure provocation: a very pregnant Virgin Mary, for example, - naked.

The picture „On a summerday“ - shows a girl jumping from a skyscraper in New York into the depth of the street. “I want to portray the theme of death.”

Or the picture of the young boy, smiling and with a pistol in his hand aiming at a young girl. A violence, which could happen every day between kids.”

In former times Horst Deuter worked in T.V. business. He was director of big shows as “Disco” and “Starparade” or “Bio´s Bahnhof” and “Baden Badener Roulette”. Than he changed from the world of illusions to the hardest realities. He even bought a licence as a pilot when he was writing the script about illegal flying in Black Africa and transported goods, people’s arms and refugees for St. Lucia Airways. A lot of taboos and nobody to change them. All illusions lost.

His next step: from the jungle of the big African potentates to the American metropolis jungle. In the USA he discovered the “ready mades” and used them as a possibility of creating in an ironical-playful way.

In his New Jersey studio he paints glamour cover and illustrations for magazines and advertising.”

Trivial-culture converts into source material. He integrates into his techniques the skills of the old masters when working at the Student´s league in New York, inclusive retrospective views of historical themes as „Salome“ or “Susanna in the bath” in a sense of Artemisia Gentileschi  (1680) .

His motifs are not only inspired by light and colour, also by the dark side of life, even on sunny Mallorca. One example is the series “Nighthawks”, - details out of the normal red-light district the Mallorca Mustang Ranch, stripped of any eroticism.
